It occurs to me that if I’m going to go on to photograph, draw, and display -every- species of flora in the state, I really really need to figure out how to definitively identify these things. Starting with ferns. Because I photographed one that I simply can not identify and it’s driving me crazy. I’ve ordered a couple books that will help but I still need to know the lingo!
above is a (very) partial glossary of fern anatomy with a focus on identifying features. being able to identify parts in the field will help me avoid taking 10,000 pictures of the same ferns. It will also save me from having to sift through those same pictures at a later date when I select which ones to sketch.
